I found this really interesting article by Greg Jarboe at Search Engine Watch. “The old neighborhood is changing. Gentrification has hit the search engine industry, where the old neighborhoods populated by working-class search marketers are now being populated by new groups from other areas, and many of the things common in the daily life of a search marketer three years ago are no longer relevant to industry newcomers.
A look at the conference handbooks for the Search Engine Strategies events in New York from 2004 and 2007 shows that this is taking place in at least four different ways....

I’m taking one more break from my traditional markting posts during weekdays to pass along a great article from the Manila Standard regarding the death of Julia Campbell. This article is written by Bong Austero. It provides great insight into the importance of this tragic event from a Filipino perspective. Thanks for understanding how important this issue is to me. I’ll post something less serious and on topic tomorrow.

As I mentioned previously, many people put up websites and don’t ever have a professional search optimize their website. Others think that search engine optimization and creating link popularity is the only thing they need to do. It is very rare to have a business where 45 – 55% of the traffic comes from natural or organic search. An average webbased business gets 15% of their traffic from organic search. Some of my clients are very lucky that we have been able to drive huge amounts of traffic to their websites via organic search. If you business model doesn’t support that...

One of the common misunderstandings by newcomers to search engine optimization (SEO) is notion that you need to have fresh content in order to have top rankings at Google or to keep from losing your top rankings at Google. This is not true! There are many valid reasons to create fresh content but preventing your website from falling at Google is not one of them.Google’s algorithm still supports inbound links from related, trusted and authority sites as the primary trigger for moving your website to the top of their results. I would like to prove my point. My largest client is Gatlin Education...

The recent story of the disappearance and then untimely death of Julia Campbell a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines was very sad. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines from 1981 - 1984 and still have family and friends there. The news hit me especially hard because Julia had been a volunteer in a small town about 45 minutes away from where I had been a volunteer in what is known as the Bicol Region of the Philippines.
When I was a volunteer the community of Donsol was known as a place “not to go” because it was inundated with rebels from the New Peoples Army (NPA)....

Many people invest in a website and months or years later they complain, “my website is worthless, I never get any business from it.†Creating a website without search engine optimizing it is like creating a newspaper advertisement and never running the advertisement in the newspaper.

Marketing Sherpa is one of leading web marketing research organizations in the world. They just posted their recent article entitled, “MarketingSherpa Ecommerce Search Marketing Presentation: Top Marketing Opportunities for 2007.”
An excerpt from the report states this about why someone should invest in search engine optimization (SEO). “If your referrals from the web are in the under 10%, or even under 5%, group of SEO traffic, you are spending, too much money on getting traffic to your site. You need to be spending more investment in search engine optimization because the...
