I realize my posts are very technical at times and my audience consists of web sites owners practicing SEO, SEO enthusiasts and a lot of folks learning SEO for the first time. I came across this great post by Dr. Dave who is a member of SEOMoz’s chat. The title of the post is, “A Complete Glossary of Essential SEO Jargon.” I hope you find it useful!

The web has made business truly global for virtually everyone with a web site. My own web site is a great example of this. Fifty percent of the visitors to my web site come from countries other than the United States. The Hispanic market is one of the largest markets in the world. This interesting interview from the folks at Search Engine Watch provides some great insights on the possibilities and challenges in reaching this market segment via the web. This post is causing a little bit of an up roar in the blogging world by Kevin Rose at 10am, Jul 25th, 2007 in Digg Website.
“Hey everyone – I wanted to give you a heads-up before the official announcement is made later today. We’ve signed on Microsoft as our new partner to sell and serve the ads on Digg. It’s a deal similar to the one Facebook signed with Microsoft last year.
This move gives us an advertising partner with a larger organization and a more scalable technology platform to keep pace with Digg’s growth. Best of all, it lets the Digg team completely...

I’m so impressed with Rick Whittington’s Web Site Effectiveness Blog that I have added it to my very sparse blog roll. I only list top notch blogs in my blog roll. Check them all out when you have time. This post of Ric explores alternatives to email marketing and how the “Y generation” typically bypasses email marketing. Rick…welcome to my blog roll! I hope my regular readers enjoy today’s post too.

One of the more informative and educational blogs I have run across recently is Rick Whittington’s web site effectiveness blog. Although this post I’m quoting from his blog is a little old, it covers a topic many web site owners are interested in. The name of the article is, “How To Calculate Shopping Cart Abandonment Rate.” Let me know what you think of it.

Eleven years ago, the most popular search engine was AltaVista and the most popular directory was Yahoo. In the interim, some of the other popular search engines like MetaCrawler and Excite disappeared and/or were reborn. Just like any other relatively new industry, the search engine industry has experienced a tremendous amount of consolidation.
Yahoo now owns AltaVista, All the Web, and Overture, (renamed Yahoo Search Marketing Solutions). MSN was using Yahoo’s Search Marketing to provide their “sponsored†results but now they have their own pay per click division. Google has...

I have had people tell me that in-bound links to their web sites can harm their rankings at Google. Time and time again I have told these same people the practice of Google bowling is long dead. In-bound links from another site cannot hurt you. This post from Search Engine Roundtable that includes comments from Google’s own Matt Cutts should clear up any confusion there might still be on this topic.

Many people invest in a website and months or years later they complain, “my website is worthless, I never get any business from it.†Creating a website without search engine optimizing it is like creating a newspaper advertisement and never running the advertisement in the newspaper.
What is search engine optimization (SEO)?
Search engine optimization is a process used by Internet marketers to properly code your website so the major search engines can determine whether your site is relevant to related searches. Most website designers do not know how to optimize a website for Internet...

There isn’t a single web site owner who hasn’t received a link exchange request. Savvy web site owners understand you need to occasionally give a link to get a link. Getting links will expand your web site’s popularity and if you structure the in-bound link to your site correctly it will improve your rankings at Google and MSN over time. The question is which links do you want?
Despite persistent rumors of Google bombing (creating bad links to bring a site’s rankings down) there is no credible evidence an inbound link can harm your web site. The quality of the inbound...
