BEIJING (AP) — By some measures, China has tied the United States as the online population leader with its government reporting that the number of Internet users there has soared to 221 million.
The figure, reported Thursday by the Xinhua News Agency, reflects China’s explosive growth in Internet use despite government efforts to block access to material considered subversive or pornographic. It was a 61 percent increase over the 137 million Internet users reported at the start of 2007.
But the numbers alone can be deceiving.
Nielsen Online estimates the U.S. online population at 221...

Today I’m going off topic. Recently I have tried to have discussions with people about politics but have found virtually everyone I have tried to have conversations with closed minded and unwilling to even consider whether my opinions had an substance and validity. I read this great article in the L.A. Times today that explores why, “Most Americans are increasing closed-minded and unwilling to listen to opposing views.” I hope you enjoy this article.

It seems hard to believe but Google increased its share of the Internet search market by .6% at the expense of all competitors. According to Comscore. This is from AP Wire Services.
Yahoo Inc. is surrendering some of its advertising space to Internet search leader Google Inc. in a test that appears designed to frustrate Yahoo’s unsolicited suitor, Microsoft Corp.
The experiment announced Wednesday will allow Google to place ads tied to about 3 percent of the queries made in the United States through Yahoo’s search engine — the Internet’s second largest after Google’s.
Without specifying a start date, Yahoo said the Google tests will last for up to two weeks.
The Sunnyvale-based company said it hasn’t decided...

A lot of SEO professionals depend on website analytics, product purchasing surveys and web based forms to track the success of their SEO efforts. I recently took a page out of the direct marketer’s handbook by adding a toll free call forwarding phone number to a client’s website.

I asked them recently how many people were calling from the website and they said,...

With competition to capture for online advertising revenue getting red hot, Yahoo on Monday unveiled a new online advertising management platform called AMP, which it says will simplify the process of buying and selling ads online. With AMP, Yahoo streamlines ways online advertising space can be sold. Microsoft, Google, AOL and other companies have pursued similar initiatives as the nature of online advertising has evolved.
