As I mentioned previously, many people put up websites and don’t ever have a professional search optimize their website. Others think that search engine optimization and creating link popularity is the only thing they need to do. It is very rare to have a business where 45 – 55% of the traffic comes from natural or organic search. An average webbased business gets 15% of their traffic from organic search. Some of my clients are very lucky that we have been able to drive huge amounts of traffic to their websites via organic search. If you business model doesn’t support that kind of search engine referral activity you need to have a comprehensive online marketing plan
According to Marketing Sherpa an online marketing plan must have a variety of components. In my opinion if you are depending on only your website for income you need most the following items in order to meet your full potential.Email marketing newsletter.
A blog with a syndicated RSS feed.
An affiliate program.
Superb site navigation and simple check out for e-commerce sites.
A forum or community for niche product sites.
Google Adwords or Yahoo Marketing campaign.
A social networking site.
In my next post I will talk about things you should avoid in your marketing plan and then discuss my thoughts on why you should avoid each one that I mention.
