A lot of companies are promoting, “natural link building” via articles and press releases. It is funny because these companies seem to think they have discovered something new, yet this practice has been in place since the dawn of Internet marketing. I was writing articles seven years ago for my old web site eMarketingman.
The truth is nothing will impact your search engine rankings faster than getting in-bound links from authoritative .edu extensions or web sites. Would you like some proof? My largest client is Gatin Education Services. We just launched a “Pay Per Click Marketing Course Online” six weeks ago. This course is now #1 at Google for the search term, “pay per click marketing course” and #4 at Google for the search term, “pay per click marketing.” You will see there are three companies advertising in the spondered ads section for this search term. This course page which is an internal page of the Gatlin web site DID NOT EXIST six weeks ago.
The bottom line is all forms of inbound linking from relevant sites or articles are helpful for improving your search engine rankings at Google over time but if you want to jump to the top quickly, try to find some .edu links. My next post will share some tips on how to do just that!
