Will my site drop at Google if I don’t have fresh content?

One of the common misunderstandings by newcomers to search engine optimization (SEO) is notion that you need to have fresh content in order to have top rankings at Google or to keep from losing your top rankings at Google. This is not true! There are many valid reasons to create fresh content but preventing your website from falling at Google is not one of them.Google’s algorithm still supports inbound links from related, trusted and authority sites as the primary trigger for moving your website to the top of their results. I would like to prove my point. My largest client is Gatlin Education Services. We seldom update the content of our pages because our course material does not change very often. The last time we updated our content was in July of 2006. We have top rankings for hundreds of competitive search terms at Google. This is because of inbound links from authoritative websites. Here is a sample of some of our search terms and their rankings at Google.

#3 and #4 for Microsoft Certification Online
#2 for Pharmacy Technician
#2 for Paralegal Course
#1 for Medical Transcription

Our Google rankings for these highly competitive phrases have remained stable and in some cases improved without adding any fresh content in almost one year. This proves that in-bound links are still the primary driver of search engine rankings at Google.
